Donald "Donny" Wayne Brands, 85, of Sterling, passed away peacefully at Community General Hospital in Sterling on Friday, February 11, 2022, surrounded by family. Don was born August 11, 1936 in Morrison, the son of Riep and Dora (Prins) Brands. He married Karen Ann Bielema on June 8, 1956 in Fulton. She passed away on February 18, 2006. He then married Nancy Snodgrass on October 7, 2006. Don worked with his dad and brother at Riep Brands & Sons. Don and his brother Bob later purchased the business and changed the name to Brands Heating & Appliances. Don never truly retired, but continued to help his sons Jerry and Jon Brands after they took over the business. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church where he served as Deacon. Don enjoyed his family and friends, model railroading, fishing, putting puzzles together, and traveling to Michigan.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, three sons, Jeff (Robin) Brands, Jon (Barb) Brands of Morrison, and Jerry (Nancy) Brands of Taboc, Danao, Phillipines; one daughter, Jill (Robert) Daugherty of Camden, AR; one step daughter, Julie (Terry) Weltzin of Fairhaven; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Brands of Morrison.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Karen; one sister, Betty Huitsing; one grandson; and one great grandson.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Memorial service will follow at 11:00am with Ken Renkes officiating. Interment will conclude at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
