Dale Humphrey, 89, of Rock Falls died December 22, 2017 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Dale was born on December 10th, 1928 to Otis and Lucille Humphrey. After completing his education, he joined his parents in the real estate and insurance business at Humphrey's Agency. On August 11th of 1951 he married Carol Beveroth. They enjoyed raising their three children, Steven (now deceased), Scott (now living in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife, Sandy) and Jill (who resides in Terre Haute, IN) in the same house that Dale took his bride home to, and that the couple shared until this year.

Dale was very active in his community. He was a founding member of the Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce, and a recipient of their prestigious "Shoulder to the Wheel" award. He also served as President of the Rock Falls Rotary Club while a member. A voracious reader, he served on the Rock Falls Public Library Board for decades.

Following in his father's footsteps, he served on the Board of Directors at the Rock Falls National Bank during the 1970's.

He was always in support of his children's education, being active in the East Coloma School Community Club, serving two years as Vice-President. While at East Coloma, he also spent three years as Cub Master of the local Scout troop.

He and Carol were very active in the Rock Falls Rocket High School Band Boosters, travelling with the buses on nearly every trip their three children experienced.

Dale was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since its inception. A founding member, he served as Chairman of the Building Fund and was honored to call the congregation to its first service in their new building on Martin Road in Rock Falls in the spring of 1962. For many years he served as Sunday School Superintendent, leaving that position to fill the Office of Chairman of the Congregation for several years, completing his service to the church after serving as Treasurer for many years. He remained active in worship until the time of his death.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, his oldest son, Steven, a beloved grandson, Patrick, and his son-in-law, Don Ely.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Deborah Humphrey (widow of Steven), his son, Scott (Sandy) Humphrey and his daughter Jill Ely. He also left behind two grandsons, Eric (Deirdre) Humphrey of Chicago, IL, and Eric (Kacey) Ely of Kenansville, FL, as well as four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday December 28, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow on Friday at 2pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 435 Martin Road in Rock Falls, with burial at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. A memorial has been established at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
