Rock Falls - Burt Smith, age 84, of Rock Falls, formally of Lanark, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

Burt was born September 9, 1927 in Prophetstown, the son of Edson and Edna (Santee) Smith. He was a member of the Cowboy Church on the Rock in Prairieville. He married Patricia Empey on April 5, 1971 in Dixon. Burt also served in the Navy. He worked with NG Gilbert Cooperation in Muncie, IN as the Assistant Vice-President for 40 years, after retiring in 1987. Burt enjoyed golfing and fishing in Canada, attending church, and watching the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion, and Served as the Quartermaster at the Rock Falls VFW. Burt and his wife Patricia resided in Lanark for over 23 years before coming to Rock Falls.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters; Kathleen (Randy ) Pollock of Prophetstown, and Tina (Andy) Sieferman of Freeport, three sons; Robert (Chris) Throop of Bourbonnais, Allan (Shawn) Throop of Minnesota, and Tim (Deb) Throop of Lanark, two sisters; Ida Celletti of Rock Falls, and Edith Hoster of Rock Falls, sixteen grandchildren; Derrick (Bobbi Jo), Shelley, Aaron (Kirsti), Jason (Jan), Tyler, Spencer, Hannah, Linnea, Courtney (John), Emily, Sarah, Jamie, Bobbi Jo, Alyse, Nicky, and Charlie, and six great grandchildren; Dena, Cullen, Bailey, Leighvry, Brody, and Hailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; James Smith and Wade Smith.

Visitation will be from 5-7PM Thursday, March 1, 2012 at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls and also from 10-11 AM at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral Service will Friday, at 11AM at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Dittmar of the Cowboy Church on the Rock officiating. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
