Barry Robert DeJarnatt, age 67, of Sterling, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at his home. His son, Seth and his family, and friends, Erik Haenni, April Tabor and Larry McGinn were with him at the time of his passing.

Barry was born January 7, 1952 in Sandwich the son of Carson and Shirley (Burroughs) DeJarnatt. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1971 and served in the US Navy from 1972 – 1976. He married Diane Pletsch on September 19, 1981 in Sterling. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2019. Barry worked at Cook Machine in Washington, IL, Gate City Steel in Sterling and retired from the Whiteside County Highway Department in 2019. He enjoyed fishing, working on automobiles and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Teamsters, NRA and the American Legion.

He is survived by one son, Seth (Elly Guerrero) DeJarnatt of Sterling; two brothers, Mark (Linda) DeJarnatt of Washington, IL and David (Paige) DeJarnatt of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Michele (Eric) Linner of Crystal Lake; and his four grandchildren, Kaidyn, Ariyah, Hunter and Liyam.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane DeJarnatt; his parents; and two grandchildren, Madisyn and Bradley.

The family has requested all to dress in casual attire for the visitation that will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Avenue, Sterling. The funeral with military honors will be Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Brad Wilson of the First United Methodist Church in Sterling officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
