PROPHETSTOWN – Arlene E. McNeill, age 98, died Wednesday February 16, 2022 at Allure of Prophetstown.
Arlene was born on November 26, 1923 in Erie the daughter of Lawrence and Maude (Kieber) Perkins. She attended Erie Schools and graduated Erie High School in 1941. Arlene played the flute in the band and played many solos for groups. After high school she attended and graduated from Moline Business College. She was then employed with Old Farmers Merchant Bank in Hillside for 2 ½ years. Arlene then worked at CBQ Railroad Freight in Moline for 3 years. She married John McNeill her high school sweetheart whom had just returned home from WWII. He died on June 7, 2002. They made their home in Prophetstown where John and twin brother Jack started a business which they operated for 50 years. Arlene was the bookkeeper for them from 1960 to 1990. She was a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader as well as Sunday school teacher. Arlene enjoyed golfing, sewing, crafts, playing cards, genealogy, baking and going to lunch with her friends. She was a former member of Prophet Hills Country Club; Historical Society, Wesleyan Fellowships and Prophetstown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Dennis) Behrens of Prophetstown; one son, Brian (Julie) McNeill of Columbia, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Sarah McNeill of Clemson, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jason McNeill, John McNeill, Ann Coughlen, Randy Behrens, Cody Behrens, Steven McNeill and Kevin McNeill; eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Joyce Briggs; one son Kent McNeill.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
