Ann McMillin, 90, of Sterling, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Sterling Pavilion, surrounded by the love of her family (clan) and under the care of Rock River Hospice.

Ann was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Chicago, the daughter of Thomas and Lorene (Regan) Bingham. She was one of sixteen children. Ann married John "Jack" McMillin on February 15, 1947.

Ann attended Chicago State University pursuing a degree in Family Education. She was the founder of the McMillin Learning Center, a Whiteside County Probation Department consultant, a Sauk Valley Community College Adult Education educator, and a contributing weekly columnist for the Sterling Daily Gazette.

She served as a foster parent and a volunteer at Twin Cities PADS Homeless Shelter. She was a member of the Sauk Valley Peace Group, AAUW, Whiteside County Democrats, and International Red Dot Club.

Ann's favorite pastime was sharing adventures with her family. She traveled the globe, and particularly enjoyed her many trips to her second home, Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" McMillin.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Duane) Zellar and family, Jon Zellar (Ashden), Julie Zellar (Christian), Jeff Zellar (deceased), Cathy and Jim McPherson (Elise, Carrie, Maggie, Ryan); son, Jack McMillin Jr.; daughter, MaryKay Frey and family, Chance Frey, LeeAllen and Jesse Frey (deceased), Nick and Stephanie Fordham (Katie, Chris, Alison, Ethan), Chris Fordham (Bella, Zeke, Eli); Danielle and Robert Martinez (Shawn, Julian, Isaiah, Cadence), Steven Fordham (Bianca) and family (Xavia, Christian, Savion, Elias, Nevayah, Stephen Jr.); daughter, Barb (Don) Shoemaker and family, Clint and Maya Shoemaker (Sam, Tom), Drew and Amber Shoemaker (Claire, Will), Kay and Aaron Mendez (Vincent, Lucas, Genevieve), Jill Shoemaker; son, Tim (Lou) McMillin and family, Courtney and Mike Janssen (Andrew Kobbeman, Jake and Thomas Janssen), Abby and Devin Ferreira, Lauren McMillin, Beth and Jamie Giacomo (Caitlan and Delany), Molly and Steve Skirha (Sorina, Ronan); daughter, Ann (Ron) Ziegler and family, Becky and Luke Baker (Ruby, Alice), Zach and Jessica Ziegler (Jack, Reese), Rusty and Chica Ziegler; daughter, Pat (Max) Gaumer and family, Tyler and Kaileen Gaumer (Gwen, Maura), Tori and Bobby Ladner (Brylee, Maxton), Tricia and Steve Blum (Desmond), Timmy Gaumer; son, Dan (Ellen) McMillin and family, Sean McMillin, Michael and Rachel McMillin; daughter, Maureen (LeRoy) Compton and family, Matt and Michelle Compton, Laura and Mark Craig (Pete), Jack Compton; and son, Michael Evans.

A visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls.

An open house to honor Ann's life will be from 1 – 4 p.m., Saturday at Sterling Moose Family Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to Twin Cities PADS Homeless Shelter, Sterling, IL or YWCA, Sterling, IL (for their Domestic Violence Department).
