Patriotic Emblem

Alvia Lee Payne, 92 of Rock Falls, passed away peacefully at 12:15 a.m, on October 11, 2017 in Richard Owens hospice home, Peoria, IL surrounded by loved ones.

Alvia was born in Iuka, IL on July 2, 1925 to Estel and Shirla Payne. Alvia married the love of his life, Theresa on March 14, 1950. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, both parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

He is survived by his brother Lowell (Loretta) Payne, three children; Sue (John) Thayer, Steve (Janet) Payne, and Cathy (Tim) Calsyn, seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great granchildren.

Alvia loved to be of service to everyone he knew; from serving in the Army during World War II, to repairing mechanical equipment for neighbors, to cutting the hair of all the children in the neighborhood. Alvia was the jack of all trades, master of ALL. He enjoyed living life to the fullest, driving across the country with his family, accumulating a mountain of stories, which he loved to tell to his friends and family. He enjoyed bringing a smile to the face of all he met. Above all, Alvia loved his wife of 67 years and is now able to drive their Buick into the sunset and dance with her in the River Jordan.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16 from 12-1 P.M. at McDonald Funeral home with graveside services to follow at 1:30 P.M. at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. There will be a celebration of life for Alvia and Theresa Payne at a later date.
