Alice M. Wiersema, 100, of Sterling died Wednesday May 8, 2019 at the Citadel of Sterling.

She was born on October 12, 1918, the daughter of Louis and Ella (Nelson) Anderson. She married Eugene L. Wiersema on April 2, 1938 in Morrison. He died February 27, 1980. Alice was employed as a switchboard operator and then in customer service with the former Alltell Phone Company for 32 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son, Douglas (Ann) Wiersema; three grandchildren: Lauren (Zac) Holmes, Brian (Jeanette) Pletsch, Barbara Riley; five great grandchildren: Madison Riley, Jamie Riley, Rowen Holmes, Reid Holmes and Kayden Wiersema.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson Lyndsey Wiersema; and her three brothers.

Visitation will take place on Monday May 13, 2019 from 10 – 11 AM followed by the funeral at 11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling. Burial will be at 2 PM at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. Arrangements by McDonald Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in her memory to Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling.
