Alice Evelyn Poppenhouse, age 100 of Sterling, died Monday, April 22, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.

Alice was born on April 15, 1919 in Sterling, the daughter of Stephen and Susan (Landis) Weidel. She married Dr. Curtis Poppenhouse on July 8, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1996. Alice was a homemaker and also worked in the office where her husband was a veterinarian. She was a member of the Broadway Methodist Church in Sterling, the Rebecca Circle at church, IL Veterinary Auxiliary, National Veterinary Association Auxiliary and Lioness of the Lions Club. Alice volunteered at the Dillon home and she enjoyed reading and completing jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Kish of Northbrook, Linda (Fred) Monaco of Allison Park, PA and Jan (John) Nesemeier of Milledgeville; one son, James (Nancy) Poppenhouse of Portsmouth, RI; five grandchildren, Michele (James) Riley of Allison Park, PA, Scott (Aimee) Kish of Niles, Sara (Sean) Deck of Gurnee, Betsy (Kyle) Leech of Milledgeville and Drew (Ashley) Nesemeier of Milledgeville; nine great grandchildren, Megan (Trey) Wertz, Jessica Riley, Audrey Deck, Abby Deck, Hannah Kish, Ella Kish, Kinsley Leech, Landry Leech and James Nesemeier; and one great, great grandchild, Jane Wertz.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son-in-law, Steve Kish; three brothers and three sisters.

A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkway Center in Sterling, Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling and Dutchtown Church of the Brethren in Milledgeville.
