Alfred E. Simms, 80, of Rock Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Morrison Skilled Care.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sweet father, grandfather, and friend. And yet we rejoice that he is breathing freely and consistently, free from fear of not being able to take that deep refreshing breath, safe in the arms of his Savior Jesus. His soft spirit and quirky sense of humor will be sorely missed and forever a piece of who we are. He was born December 23, 1938 in Minturn, Arkansas to Earl and Alma Naomi Simms on their homestead. He attended Minturn Elementary School and Hoxie High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and was very good at it. For many years he helped out on the family farm picking cotton and beans. At 19 years old, he took a risk to discover a different path. He ended up working for 43 years before retiring in 2001 from Chicago Northwestern / Union Pacific Railroad. Anyone that knows Dad knows the love he had for Elvis Presley. He would spend hours in the basement with sound equipment memorizing and singing songs. And even more so the love for his three daughters and their families. Selfless, giving, loving, sweet and kind, that is the man our father was.

Survivors include his three daughters, Tonya (Wayne) Kunde, Tara (Darin) Gillam and Tosha (Ryan) Venema; Billie Simms; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey (Kyle) Jacob, Jenna (Nick) Takacs, Jacob (Kelsey) Kunde, Ryan (Amber) Gillam, Joshua (Sarah) Gillam, Jonah Venema and Isaiah Venema; four great grandchildren, Libby and Kolby Jacob, Jaxon Kunde and Lucille Takacs; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leonard Simms.

Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab.
