Tribute & Message From The Family

Aloysius J. Dieterle
I, Aloysius J. Dieterle, on October 14, 2019, passed away at the age of 94.
Born July 20, 1925 in Santa Monica, California I was the first born of six sons to Earnest and Helen (Vock) Dieterle. Raised in Westwood, California (UCLA area, with vivid memories of Jackie Robinson), I was a very active child. Guided by my mother, I was involved as an altar boy, choir, and drum and bugle.
Driving at the age of eleven, I would load the lawnmower in my dad's new '37 Plymouth's trunk and drive two blocks to mow lawns for fifty cents. I enjoyed western movies, traveling and a good medium rare steak. At the age of fifteen, my parents moved back to Illinois to become "tillers of the soil".
At Community High School, I met a beautiful girl and after five years of chasing her (she didn't run very fast), I married Mary A. Vogelsang on November 29, 1947. We shared 72 loving years together, raising a family of ten children.
I worked as a farmer, gas station owner, T.V. repairman and finally painting, learning the trade from my father. I enjoyed creating a reputable decorating business which started in 1950 and is still going today even though I retired in 2014 at the age of 89.
I enjoyed building houses (6) with bigger bedrooms and buying new cars (22+) with more seating for my growing family. I credit my wife, Mary, with the organizational skills to raise a family of ten children.
As a member of Sacred Heart, I have served in various capacities: lector, building committee, finance committee, usher and greeter.
I am survived by my children: Bill (Norma), Daryl (Cathy), Cheryl Gardner, Carol (Gary) Bardin, Al (Becky), Mary (John) Rahm, Donna (Gary) Robbins, Helen (Frank) Kappmeyer, and Julia (Charley) Kashou; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and counting; and brothers, John (Juene), Deacon James, Thomas (Kathie) and Richard (Donna).
I am preceded in death by my parents, Earnest and Helen; my wife, Mary, daughter, Kathleen; brother, Ernest; and sisters-in-law, Mary and Beryl.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with the Rosary recited at 4:30 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling with Reverend Bruce Ludeke officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church, Newman High School, St. Mary's School or Hospice of the Rock River Valley.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Mr.Dieterle was consummate gentlemen with my mom as various painting projects at our home. Very quiet and hard working and thoughtful, always. His obit speaks to that character. Condolences to my classmate Al and the whole Dieterle family.

I knew Al from church but "really" got to know him when I was had the honor of writing his life story. I adore Al....and was not surprised at all to finally read his obituary written in the first person! ONLY AL! What a character and what a wonderful Christian, Catholic, and community member. I am delighted that he is with his dear wife and talking her ear off. What a wonderful life with a beautiful family at the core. Rejoice--Al is going to be missed but he is in a great place. He is my new Saint and I hope he has time to pray for me! Deepest sympathy to all Al's family and friends but most of all to his children-- congratulations on having a wonderful father and enjoying him for so many years. God Bless

We are so saddened to learn of Al's passing. He and Mary were such great neighbors to my mother, Lora Hott. If there is anything I can do to help next door, please feel free to ask.
