Barbara A. Lopez, 83 formerly of Sterling died Friday August 16, 2019 at CGH Medical Center.

She was born on May 6, 1936 in Dixon the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Baker) Nicklaus. She married James L. Lopez Sr. on July 17, 1964 in Sterling. Barbara was a member of St. Mary Church in Sterling where she had been active in cooking for many fund raisers and also active in the Pro-Lifer Movement for many years. She was a founder and had coordinated the Thanksgiving Dinner for the elderly; a founding member of the homeless shelter (P.A.D.S); and was instrumental in the helping neighbor projects.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Lopez Sr. ; daughters; Linda Moyer of Sterling, Anita (Doug) Schryver of Rock Falls, Bonnie (Daniel) Wheeler of Clinton, IA and Cindy (Joe) Sisler of Eldridge, IA; sons: James L. (Kim) Lopez Jr of Dayton, OH, Al Davis of Sterling, Jesse Lopez of Austin, TX, Robert (Sue) Lopez of Glen Haven, WI, James (Janeane) Cox, Richard (Marlee) Cox; her sisters: Carol (Don) Farwell, Judy (Michael) Murphy, Linda (Jim) Ehman, Bonita Nicklaus, Pat (Duane) Johnson and Betty Prescott; her brothers: Dwayne (Inga) Nicklaus, Jack Nicklaus and Richard (Illa) Nicklaus all of Illinois; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Edward, Ralph, Frank, Bill, Kenneth, Donald, Charles and David; infant daughter Jessica.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Tuesday August 20, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Reverend Paul C. White, Celebrant officiating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
