Jean Marie Wagenknecht, age 88 of Sterling, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Regency Care of Sterling.

Jean was born on February 10, 1930 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Oliver and Hazel (Swanson) Haugen. She married William C. Wagenknecht on Sept 7, 1951 in Sterling; he preceded her in death on December 29, 1998. Jean worked at Sowles Dry Goods and Ready to Wear in Rock Falls for 27 years and then worked in the office at RB & W for about 3 years. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Anthony Rizzo fan. Jean enjoyed working in her yard and going out to dinner. She love her dog, Adorable and her granddog, Bailey.

Survivors include her daughter, Jana Espinoza (Jamie Cox) of Sterling; her son, Brent (Becky) Wagenknecht of Sanford, FL; one sister, Virginia Wallingford of Charles City, IA; two grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Unger and Megan Wagenknecht; and six great grandchildren, Kyle, William, Logan, Olivia, Abbigail and Allysen Unger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her step-father, Joseph Greer.

Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling, 505 1st Avenue. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

Memorials may be made in her memory to Happy Tails in Rock Falls.

I am so sorry for your loss...there have been too many of these this past few weeks. I met your mom a couple of times and she was very sweet...such a nice lady - I can only imagine how much you will both miss her. I will be thinking of all of you these next few weeks.
