Laurence E. Dennis, Jr.
Laurence E. Dennis, Jr., age 97, died Monday, December 7, 2015 at his home.
Laurence was born the son of Laurence, Sr. and Alice (Harrison) Dennis. He graduated from Farmington Community High School in the class of 1936. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII in the 8th Air Force 92nd Bomb Group. He was shot down over Norway on his 23rd Mission and was a POW for 18 months at Stalag 17B. Laurence married Marjorie Huffman in August of 1945 in Trivoli. She preceded him in death in 1974. He married Marion Deets on December 20, 1975 in Sterling. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2007. He married Judy Warner on December 14, 2013 in Sterling. Laurence was employed at Keystone Steel and Wire Co. as the assistant to the Vice President of Sales. He worked there for 32 years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling, the Masonic Lodge, was a lifetime member of the American Legion and American Ex- Prisoners of War and Stalag 17B Ex-Prisoners of War. He loved to golf and travel. He was an honorable man and loved by many.
Survivors include his wife of Sterling; two daughters, Marla Hori and Jane Dennis; two sons, Michael Dennis and John (Tomoko) Dennis; two sisters, Patsy Berei and Rosemary Utzsinger; five grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Cheryl (Cary) Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harrison and Milton Dennis; and three sisters, Julia Dennis, Virginia Ricer and Margaret Esther Dennis.
Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2015 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling. Funeral services will be Friday at 12:00 PM at the church with Reverend Wesley Dickson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established to the American Red Cross and Wesley United Methodist Church.
