Lorna G. Thayer, 68, of Fulton, died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo.

Born June 8, 1947 in Tuscola, IL she was the daughter of Loran and Gueretta (Anglen) Lewis. She was united in marriage to Dale F. Thayer on June 7, 1970 in Villa Grove.

Lorna was a teacher at Fulton High School from 1985 until her retirement in 2004. She previously taught at St. Mary's High School in Clinton, Iowa from 1972-1979. She was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She became a member of Merton Chapter No. 356, Order of Eastern Star, Fulton, in February 1973 serving as Worthy Matron in 1976, 1977, 1983, 2007, and 2012. She served as an officer every year from 1974 – 2015, serving as Secretary for 27 years.

Commissioned as Grand Lecturer of the Grand Chapter of Illinois in November 1979, then took her Emeritus in November 1994. Re-commissioned in October 2004. Served as Grand Representative of New Jersey in Illinois in 2007. Served Grand Chapter of Illinois as Grand Martha in 2008. Served as a member of Board of Grand Examiners in 2010, and took her Emeritus again in November 2012.

Surviving are her husband, Dale, of Fulton; a daughter, Cindy (Mike) Kuykendall, of Buckner, MO; a son, Ryan (Lora) Thayer, of Minneapolis, MN; a brother Kirk (Louise) Lewis, of Toms River, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Linda Beesley.

Visitation will be from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Wednesday, November 18th at Fulton Presbyterian Church. An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 12:30 pm. The funeral will follow at 1:00 PM at the church with Reverend Dr. James Camp officiating. Burial will be at Fulton Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory to Fulton Presbyterian Church or Fulton High School Scholastic Bowl Program. Arrangements are through McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton.
